Andrea Petkovic missed the quarterfinals at the WTA tournament in St. Petersburg. The 34-year-old from Darmstadt clearly lost 6-1, 6-2 to former French Open winner Jelena Ostapenko from Latvia in the round of 16 on Thursday.
For Petkovic it was the third defeat in the fifth duel with Ostapenko. Thus, the event in Russia, endowed with 703,580 dollars, comes to an end without German participation.
Qualifier Jule Niemeier had already failed in round one because of two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova from the Czech Republic.
