Talpa’s moral compass deviates sharply from what is customary in society. John de Mol and his buddies don’t really care what their stars are up to, as long as people are watching. And so it is possible that Peter Gillis, despite all the shady issues surrounding the reality star, can continue to broadcast on SBS 6.

‘Viewer decides!’

Angela de Jong, the AD opinion diva, finds this really strange. “Well, I’ve said that a hundred times and I find it really, really unacceptable that they keep giving that man a platform. Real. That’s a big middle finger to the entire society at the moment,” she said recently.

What does Peter think of these statements? He responds in the latest Party: “The viewer decides, right? There are camps for and camps against. She has to know what Angela de Jong writes. She is allowed to have her opinion. But look, I have always said to John de Mol that if we do not have viewing figures, I will give back the contract.”

Money enough

Peter says he does the television series ‘for a hobby’. “I don’t have to do it for the money, because we have enough of it. I do it purely because I enjoy doing it. I don’t have to live on it. I like that people are watching and I also like that when I go somewhere, I can make someone happy with a photo.”

According to Peter, there are many people who are not like Angela: “I also get a lot of feedback from the viewers, the fans. I get bags of sausage rolls and flowers are sent every week.”

Written to pieces

The media are only interested in his downfall, Peter believes. “Do you know what it is: I have already been condemned and written down by some media. I have had FIOD raids. Should you be ashamed of that? No, at least I don’t. ‘He committed fraud’, everyone says in the news, but I have never been convicted of that.”

He concludes: “We went on holiday to Italy and Spain with the camper last summer and when you see how many fans honk and wave at us along the way… Yes, that also gives me strength.”
