– We are perhaps the worst team in Manchester United’s club history.

This was stated by the team’s head coach Ruben Amorim on Sunday, when United had lost at home to Brighton 1-3.

– I know the press wants headlines, but I’m saying this because we need to understand it so we can change it, Amorim continued.

It was already the fourth home loss for the red shirts in the last five games.

– We have won two of the last ten Premier League games. Imagine how this feels for Manchester United fans. Imagine how this makes me feel.

Amorim jumped to the sticks of the red shirts in November, when Erik ten Hag had been fired. With the Portuguese, the team has collected 11 points in 11 Premier League games.

– We got a new coach who loses even more than the previous one. I know I booked it well, Amorim continued to open up in front of the media.

Former Everton midfielder Leon Osman thought Amorim’s throw from “the worst team in the club’s history” was rather special.

– Their starting line-up costs £391m. Last summer they signed five players for £182 million, Osman recalled.

The statistics do not support Amorim’s estimates either.

13 times in Manchester United’s history, the team has had fewer points at this stage of the season than now (26). The last time there were fewer points was in the 1989–90 season.

Manchester United is in 13th place in the Premier League.
