As of: January 9, 2024 8:45 p.m

At RB Leipzig he mostly languished on the bench, at Tottenham Hotspur Timo Werner finally wants to play and score again. After passing the medical check, the loan is now perfect.

The transfer of national soccer player Timo Werner from RB Leipzig to the English club Tottenham Hotspur is perfect. Both clubs announced this on Tuesday evening. Accordingly, RB Leipzig is loaning him to the Premier League club until the summer. Tottenham also secured a purchase option for Werner, which is reportedly worth 17 million euros.

Debut on Sunday at Man United?

At RB he only made eight appearances in the Bundesliga this season and scored two goals. The starting eleven quota was only 13 percent, and 14 percent were the minutes played. Tottenham sees a certain need for action in attack, as ex-Leverkusen player Heung-min Son is with South Korea in the Asian Cup at the beginning of the year. Werner could make his debut for the North Londoners on Sunday, when his new club will take on Manchester United. According to Tottenham, he will wear the number 16 jersey.

Marco Rose: “We keep our fingers crossed for him”

“Timo wants match practice, which I can’t guarantee him at the moment. He wants to go to the European Championships, and maybe it will help us if he comes back in top condition under certain circumstances,” coach Marco Rose had already said on Sunday. “We’re keeping our fingers crossed for him that he gets back on his feet there and gains self-confidence.”

Striker No. 4 at RB

At RB, the national player recently couldn’t get past newcomer Lois Openda and old master Yussuf Poulsen. In the ranking, Werner then fell behind Benjamin Sesko, another newcomer. The Slovenian, worth 24 million euros, is dissatisfied with his playing times and is pushing for more playing minutes. Rose did not want to resist the request of the 20-year-old, who could have a future at RB.

Timo Werner had a difficult time at RB recently.

Werner with 113 goals for RB

During his first time at RB, Timo Werner, who came from VfB Stuttgart in 2016, became a national player and a crowd favorite. In 2020 he went to Chelsea FC, where he was only partially happy. The return to Leipzig followed in August 2022. In total, he scored 113 times in 213 games for the Rasenballer, as well as 47 assists.
