Pelé died, the Brazilian soccer legend passed away at the age of 82

After a month in the hospital Albert Einstein of Sao Paulo, passed away Edson Arantes do Nascimiento, better known as Pelé, the Brazilian soccer legend. He died today Thursday December 29 at the age of 82.

The Brazilian star defended the colors of his country’s team, he had been fighting colon cancer that was diagnosed in 2021 and metastasized in early 2022.

He made his debut with the Brazilian national team in 1957 at the age of 16 and is, together with Neymar, the national team’s top scorer with 77 goals. Likewise, he founded the ‘jogo bonito’ style and played in four World Cups, of which he was champion in 1958, 1962 and 1970, being the footballer who has won the most times and the youngest.

In this way, the former striker registered a total of 12 goals in 14 World Cup matches and was chosen as the best player in 1970 and the best young player in 1958. He was never able to win the Copa América and his best participation was the runner-up in 1959.

For days, when the doctors announced that the only thing left to do was wait for the death, that Santos, a club that cradled almost his entire career, has been preparing the stadium to hold what is expected to be one of the most massive funerals in the history of Brazil.
