Protest movement Pegida held a demonstration in Assen and burned a Koran. The demonstration was on the Havenkade in Assen and was allowed under strict conditions.
The action started around 11 am. The Havenkade was completely closed with trucks. There was a large police presence to maintain order and prevent possible incidents. Foreman Edwin Wagensveld of Pegida gave a short speech, after which the Koran was burned.
The demonstration took place without any major incidents. After about half an hour the group left Assen.
In October last year, a Pegida campaign was banned due to safety risks.
