At the Betje Wolff Museum, Aafje de Jong and Janna Bakker are busy brushing: “Visitors must soon be able to sit on clean benches.” After a renovation of the museum last year it was a mess in the garden, but now it looks Pico Bello again.

“This spring we started installing a beautiful herb garden,” says a noticeably proud Aafje. “We have a gardener couple that is really great, they also come to water water during the week. You see: everything looks great.”

The Beemster Tuinenweekend was founded in 2000 by, among others, Wil Oudejans. “That also had to do with Beemster World Heritage (from 1999 the area has that status, ed.). That was enormously successful. The first years there were really crowds with people, above expectations.”
