“We finally buried the war of war !!!”, Madonna wrote on Monday (April 7th) on Instagram. She referred to the feud with Elton John, which has been going on for many years.
For two decades, the two showered with taunts. The photo that the singer has now stopped shows her even in a kind of friendly (side) hug with each other. There was also a praise: “I looked at Elton John at SNL (” Saturday Night Live “) !! WOW.”
The flattery went even further. So she wrote in Contribution to your Instagram picturethat visiting one of John’s concerts during her school days would have changed the course of her life and helped her to see that she also wanted to become a pop star.
Madonna felt exposed to Elton John’s anger
However, they had injured her colleague’s numerous liabilities, who bordered contempt. “For decades, it hurt to know that someone I admired so much, publicly announced his aversion to me as an artist,” said Madonna. “I didn’t understand that.”
Nevertheless, she now wrote appreciatively: “I have always felt as an outsider and watch him on stage, helped me to understand that it is okay to be different – to attract attention! – to go the less used path”.
The conflict between the 66-year-old and the 78-year-old started publicly when Elton John Madonna sharply criticized in 2002 because she received a nomination as a best original song from the Golden Globes for the James Bond song “Die Another Day”. Elton Fies at the time: “Madonna, Best Song? Fuck Off! Since When Has Lip-Syncing Been Live?”
On Madonna’s “Re-Invention Tour”, Elton John accused her of lip-synchronization again-an assertion that has not been proven, but has been discussed in the media and not least on the Internet since then.
“Madonna. Best song ???? Fuck off !!!”
The Golden Globes 2012 escalated: Both were nominated for songs this time: Madonna for “Masterpiece” from her own film “We”, Elton John for “Hello Hello” from “Gnomeo & Juliet”. The singer won the price. John (and his husband David Furnish) reacted visibly upset. FURISH wrote on Facebook: “Madonna. Best Song ???? Fuck Off !!!” He also questioned whether the prices would really be awarded to the best in the end.
Madonna reacted behind the stage, but not offensive. Her words are guaranteed: “John is known for not suffering me (…). He is brilliant and I adore him, so he will also win another price. I don’t feel bad.”
While Elton John tried to apologize for his meanness as early as 2013, the painful words remained present. So now there was the meeting at “Saturday Night Live” and therefore forgiveness.
Reconciliation on “Saturday Night Live”
As the musician continued, she wanted to confront her colleague in the backstage area. But John reacted unexpectedly and said, before Madonna came a word about his lips: “Please forgive me.”
The singer touched: “Forgiveness is a powerful tool. It only took a few minutes. We hugged.”
In a comment on her Instagram post, John thanked Madonna for “forgetting me and my big mouth”. He emphasized her work as an activist in the fight against HIV and AIDS as one of the many reasons why he admired her. “I am not proud of what I said. Especially when I think of all the groundbreaking things you did as an artist,” he wrote. “I am grateful that we can continue.”
