From August 4, 2025, Lidl introduces the digital deposit bon nationwide. Customers store their deposit via the Lidl Plus app and automatically resolve it at the cash register. Paperbons remain optional – the new solution saves garbage and simplifies the process.
Digitization In the supermarket
According to its own statements, Lidl is the first food retailer to introduce a digital deposit bon to Germany. From August 4, 2025, the new function is available nationwide in all branches. The aim is to simplify the cash register process and reduce paper consumption in order to make an active contribution to environmental protection.
This is how the digital pledge works
The digital deposit bon is saved via the Lidl Plus app and can be automatically redeemed when shopping – simply by scanning the Lidl Plus card at the checkout, provided that the bon has not been manually deactivated. In the app, customers keep track of all available and already reversed deposit amounts.
Advantages for customers
The digital pawnbon makes collecting and storing paper documents superfluous. Customers no longer lose bons and have their deposit amounts in view at any time – directly in the Lidl Plus app. The redeem is also simplified: When scanning the customer card at the cash register, the deposit is automatically deducted. This saves time and ensures more comfort when shopping.
Paperbon remains possible
Despite the new digital solution, the classic paper bon is preserved. Customers can decide for themselves whether they want to redeem their deposit digitally via the Lidl Plus app or continue to be in printed form. Both variants are valid in all branches across Germany. “We let our customers choose […] And at the same time set a strong sign for customer -friendly digitization, “emphasizes Florian Späth, Managing Director Customer Sales of Lidl Dienstleistle GmbH & Co. KG.
Experiences from the test phase
Before the digital deposit bon was introduced across Germany, Lidl successfully tested the system in selected branches. According to the company, the feedback was positive. Lidl Plus users already know a similar principle from the digital receipt that has been available since 2019. The introduction of the digital pawnbon is now a consistent further development on the way to a more modern shopping experience.
