Paul Witteman (75) will definitively stop TV: ‘Gone is gone’ NOW

NPO celebrity Paul Witteman will never return to television. That said the former presenter, who recently said goodbye to his program Podium WittemanThursday in the radio program Never sleep again

“I am no longer on television, that has been,” said Witteman. “Gone is gone. I couldn’t find a better time to stop than this.”

The journalist celebrated his 75th birthday at the end of 2021 and received a Silver Nipkow disc earlier this year for his complete oeuvre. “If I had continued now, I would have stayed for another three years. Then at some point people will say: can you still drive a car?” Witteman wanted to be ahead of that moment.

Since he announced his retirement on television, Witteman says he has been called by many programs. “Talk shows, who want to sideline me to comment. But I don’t have to do that anymore. I don’t want any more role on television, in any way.”

This does not mean that Witteman will retire completely. “I can imagine that I will tell people what you can and should do with interview tools. I think there are people who like to hear that.”
