Paul de Leeuw believes that Israel should be excluded from participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. He thinks it is more than right that AvroTros has boycotted the song festival this year.
It is not yet known whether the Netherlands will participate in the Eurovision Song Contest again next year. The AvroTros boycotted the song festival this year because of Israel’s participation, but that warring country will be there again next year. What does Paul de Leeuw think about it? He expresses his opinion in an interview with The Telegraph.
‘Good for AvroTros!’
Paul supports AvroTros. “I think it is very good that AvroTros has wanted to take action and say: we stand for something. But at the same time you must also conclude that the statement has had little effect.”
He continues: “I am curious whether a new discussion will erupt now that Israel has stopped the flotilla in international waters and treated the people on board in a terrible way. I think that Israel should be excluded for those reasons. Just like it happened with Russia.”
Aggressor
Israel gets a good beating from Paul. “The attacks on October 7, 2023 were terrible. But Israel is an aggressor, no matter how you look at it.”
Does he even have anything to do with the Eurovision Song Contest? “Much less so in recent years, I am honest. I think it has all become far too pompous. Far too many countries are participating. And it has become more of a video festival than a song festival. It is only about the clips and the effects.”
Omroep MAX is interested in taking over the song festival. More information about this is expected to be known after the summer.
