Paul de Leeuw also not in Today Inside in 2023: ‘Doesn’t suit us’

Paul de Leeuw will also not appear as a table guest in Today Inside in 2023. According to Johan Derksen, he is not at all suitable for this. “We prefer to sit with other guys.”

The risk of failure is enormous for potential guests of Today Inside. If you don’t like the VI trio, you will be completely bashed the night after. Paul de Leeuw also made an attempt to become a regular guest at the beginning of last year, but that failed miserably. He was last seen a good month before the candle riot broke loose.

Resit?

Paul stated that he had left the program on his own initiative (‘I sometimes felt very much like: ‘what are they saying?’, but contradiction was not the intention’), but Johan denied that. He said: “This was not Paul’s choice at all, but our editors’ choice, because we didn’t really think he fit the program anymore.”

Yet Paul is undeniably still a big name, who wouldn’t be out of place on any daily talk show. Is there no resit in the coming year?

John doesn’t want to

Not if it’s up to John. He tells Coffee with John that there is no interest in Paul anymore. “I think Paul de Leeuw is a very nice man and I also think Paul de Leeuw is a good TV maker, but I didn’t think he suited us very well.”

Why not then? “Then it becomes a bit of the Paul de Leeuw show. That boy does not do that on purpose, but that boy has had his own show all his life.”

No success

Paul de Leeuw and Today Inside are simply not a match, says Johan. “No, I didn’t think it was a success. But then you immediately get reports in the newspaper that he is being boycotted.”

That is nonsense, says Johan. “There is no question of that at all, but we prefer to sit with those other guys.”

Job and Eus

Which other guys? “The great art with us is to find the right fourth person with us and then another suitable person with us at the bar. We have noticed that they are few and far between.”

A number do fit perfectly, says Johan. “Job, the lawyer, has that very much, and Eus has that very much too. I personally think that Wierd Duk has that too and we like to sit with Hélène. Then the atmosphere is good at the table.”
