Routledge describes May 8, 1945, unforgettable.
– I remember we went to school and morning gathering. We were given that day free. Later in the evening, hundreds of people gathered on the beach to socialize, sing and shout the cheer cries. Just to be together. It was wonderful, the actor says.
Routledge says he wrote letters to the Norwegian minerall soldiers at school.
– We wrote to them and their families. We sent small gifts and knitwear to their young children, Routledge recalls.
