Arq, what are the services you provide in relation to your profession?
Just as medieval parchments were scratched to be used again, but traces of what was previously written remained, I feel my works as a palimpsest. They tell a past that we don’t know about but that are inevitably part of our present.
For more than ten years I have been buying deteriorated corridor houses, to later recycle and sell them. In general, they have already been intervened on several occasions and have lost the original sense of casa chorizo, a typical typology of the time in which they were built. My premise is always to reinvent the spirit of these spaces that time seems to have left without a soul. I like to think of myself as a creator and curator of homes.
I work without clients, they are projects without a particular order. I let myself be carried away by some element that I fix as an anchor, I start with an intuition. It is a random encounter, other times capricious and in the process of transmuting the work I let myself be carried away by the magic of seeing it appear.
I think of each project as a unique and unrepeatable piece where the chance of the encounter plays a crucial role. I collect materials from demolitions, purchases and sales or that are simply abandoned, I discover a place and destination for them. I work with the resources I have at all times.
I carry out a constant search to recover a constructive spirit associated with the traditional, trades that have been lost. He also reinterprets techniques with a contemporary look. I give importance to manual work and craftsmanship.
When did you start in this field?
In 2011, recently graduated as an Architect, the possibility of investing in an internal house arose. Without experience, she knew that it was a very big and long-term bet, perhaps she was not aware of all that she was going to learn and enjoy over the years. My adventure started, I spent all day at the construction site getting my hands on it. She wanted to learn about everything, she was very restless. I immediately fell in love with the world of wood and bought my first tools.
Did you inhabit a house made by yourself?
For me a house is a living being, which responds to the concerns and needs of its occupants. To inhabit is to convert a space into one’s own place to remain in it.
In 2017 it was the first time that I inhabited my own work, an experience that gave a more comprehensive look at the project. The beginning of a new stage. Over time I began to dedicate more time to details, to each corner, to improve the quality of its spaces and to give it a sense of home again.
Knowing how to do with what is there. It is an art and my passion.
Living is the mark of life. To live is to leave a mark.
