The festivities were not only a unique experience for visitors, the residents themselves also celebrated. Brigitte Beernaert has been living in the Begijnhof for twenty years and emphasizes the special connection among the residents: “There is a special dynamic of care for each other, helping, guiding in life and aging. That has been around here for 800 years, in the same place, exclusively with women.”
