Mobile homes are trendy in Germany. But often in a city it is not so easy to be the owner of a rolling home, because parking is often rare. Mobile homes clog the streets and are often the reason for anger and fines.
Trend motorhomes
According to the Caravaning Industry Association, CIVD for short, the number of motorhomes in Germany has been tripled about eight years. So you can clearly speak from a trend towards the rolling home. This trend has an unfortunate effect on the general parking situation. The ADAC warns that motorhomes are increasingly worsening the already precarious parking situation in residential areas and metropolitan areas, whether regularly or disregarded. But where can the rolling locks actually park and how long?
General situation
First of all, everyone is allowed to park, at least outside of parking and stopping zones. This also applies to motorhomes, i.e. motorized camper, and caravans, i.e. trailers. For both, however, the following applies: With a weight of more than 7.5 tons, the city must not park on the street in the city and at over 2.8 tons. If a WONMOBIL is below the weight class of 7.5 tons, with the corresponding street approval, parked everywhere, where this is also allowed for other motor vehicles.
Park ban with supplement by car
However, the Road Traffic Regulations (StVO) provide clear guidelines for many individual cases. However, the following rules are particularly important for most owners of caravans or motorhomes. One should not park on designated parking spaces with supplementary cars, as is often the case in large sites. Even if you push yourself into very tight parking rooms, it can be expensive because the safety distance from property entrances and the nearest side of the street must be at least 3.5 meters. If you do not threaten this, the amount of fines from 20 euros upwards and, in the worst case, towing – combined with all the corresponding costs.
Would you prefer a parking space for motorhome and caravans?
Due to the potentially high costs, a rented parking space is therefore usually worthwhile. There are often fenced and guarded meadows where operators provide a parking space for just 25 euros a month. So these costs correspond to a little more than one ticket a month and are particularly interesting for the owners of caravans, as they have to be moved every 2 weeks when they are on streets.
