Sanaa/Tel Aviv (dpa-AfX)-The Israeli Air Force has flown a massive attack against alleged goals of the Huthi militia in Yemen. Among other things, a military facility in an area in which the Presidential Palace is located in the capital Sanaa was announced in its Telegram channel. Other goals were two electricity works and a fuel warehouse that served to supply the Huthi militia.
The military founded the recent air strikes with rocket and drone attacks, which the Huthi-Miliz had recently started against Israel. In the most recent rocket attack on Friday evening, the militia allied with the Iran probably used string ammunition for the first time, the Israeli military said on Sunday. Israeli air defense had intercepted the projectiles. Also almost all previous rocket and drone attacks from Yemen had fended off Israel.
Eyewitnesses in Sanaa reported violent explosions. Some of the energy devices that are made, such as one of the e-works and the fuel warehouse, describe them as plants with a civilian function. The tel-Masirah television station controlled by the Huthi confirmed that an electric plant and a fuel warehouse were hit. Two people were killed in the attack and five more were injured, the broadcaster announced. Civil protection units are in use to extinguish the flames.
From Israeli military circles said that more than ten Air Force fighter planes were deployed in the attack. The machines were filled up in the air several times. The goals were therefore in distances of up to 2,000 kilometers from the Israeli border – about 5.5 flight hours.
Since the beginning of the war between Israel and Islamist Hamas in the Gaza Strip in October 2023, the Huthi Israel has repeatedly attacked with rockets and drones – according to their own statements as an expression of their solidarity with Hamas. In return, Israel attacks destinations in Yemen, which according to its own information sees it in a connection with the military activities of the Huthi./le/raf/gm/dp/mis
