Colman Domingo thanked Paris Jackson for the fact that she advice for the role of her grandfather Joe Jackson in the upcoming film “Michael”.

Support from Paris and Prince Jackson

The biopic staged by Antoine Fuqua about Michael Jackson shows the nephew of the late singer, Jaafar Jackson, as “King of Pop” and – as already announced in summer – is divided into two separate films. Domingo takes on the role of the family patriarch, while Nia Long plays his wife Katherine Jackson and Miles Teller the lawyer and consultant John Branca.

At the weekend, Domingo and Paris Jackson met again at the “Amfar” beefizgala during the Film Festival in Venice, where they appeared together with Ava Max. Domingo took the opportunity to thank Paris Jackson and her brother Prince Jackson for their support while filming “Michael”.

“They are very behind our film,” Domingo told People. “I am happy to be here at Amfar with Paris Jackson tonight. It feels like a nice opportunity to come together.” He added that Paris was “very helpful” during production.

“The most inspiring me this profound and prominent family called Jackson,” said Domingo. “We would not have all this music that gave us great memories – the big moments that we all share – without the Jackson family. And I don’t just mean Michael – I mean the whole family.”

Filming, controversy and shifts

“Michael” was accompanied by numerous delays and some controversy. The filming originally ended in May 2024, but the planned start date on April 18, 2025 was postponed to October 2025 after it was known that 22 days of rehearsal were required.

This subsequently concerned the third act of the film, which in a way dealt with the allegations of sexual abuse against Jackson. Specifically, the film violated a legal agreement between Jackson’s representatives and the then 13-year-old Jordan Chandler, who accused him of in 1993 and later received $ 20 million. Part of this agreement was that Chandler’s history and person should never be presented in a film about Jackson.

When the producers-including the Jackson estate-reorganized the film with a revised screenplay version and then, Lionsgate announced in May that the material was extensive enough to share the biopic into two films. The first part is now to be released on April 24, 2026, while the second part is still in the works.

Focus on the film

According to “The Hollywood Reporter”, “Michael” will treat the first half of Jackson’s life and career, including his time with the Jackson 5 and his decision to leave the group after the success of “Off The Wall” (1979). The second film, if it is completed and published, should cover the rest of his career – including “Thriller” and “Bad” – but with a third act that deals with the allegations.

The script comes from John Logan. Other performers are Larenz Tat as Motown founder Berry Gordy, Laura Harrier as music manager Suzanne de Passe and Kat Graham as Diana Ross.

Just last week, Domingo surprisingly appeared in Sabrina Carpenter’s music video for “Tears” from her new album “Man’s Best Friend”.
