The carnival association Van Beek en Donk is in its hands. The prince wagon was stolen on Thursday morning. Or actually disappeared, because the association thinks it’s a playful joke. According to chairman Romy Brummelkamp, the timing is very bad. Because if the car does not return very quickly, the parade for the reingers falls into the water.
The members of the association discovered on Thursday morning that the car was gone. “Our decorative committee went to the storage to decorate, inspect and to check if everything was okay. But they found the storage with an open gate and discovered that the car was not there,” says Romy Brummelkamp.
The Reijders of Ganzendonck soon realized that there are no real thieves behind it, but that it is a playful action. “Our current prince, Luuk Li, worked a few years ago on removing a car,” explains Romy. “He was already at the association then and did so together with a few friends like ‘the pirates’. We think that someone else now wants to ensure tension and sensation.”
Although the storage owner initially loved the stupid, he finally admitted to the club that he knows who is behind it. “He did not say who they are, but what they intend,” says Romy.
“We like some commotion, but this is very bad timing.”
The club is not afraid of a joke, but this time it is very bad. The car still has to be inspected. “Work was still planned for Thursday and Friday that guarantee the safety of the passengers. The fire extinguishers still have to be replaced and then the inspection would follow.”
That is not possible now and so for this year there seems to be a line through the parade for the reingders. If the car comes out at the last minute, the association is not allowed to participate, because the car is not insured. “Conclusion: fun promotion, we like some commotion, but this is very bad timing.”
“Otherwise there is really no time to make it right.”
Romy begs the joke makers via Facebook to tell her where the car is. In exchange, she promises that she will not reveal anything. “I’m not going to tell what they are planning. But I hope someone reports and then I leave that honor to them.”
According to the chairman, it is a matter of now or never. “From Friday the people who can work on it and can inspect a full program. Someone has to bring the car back, because otherwise there is really no time to get him in order.”
