Belgian Berckmoes wins fourth ride Tour of Belgium
8.30 pm: Jenno Berckmoes has won the fourth stage in the Tour of Belgium. The Belgian of Lotto was the best of four refugees after a hilly ride of 173 kilometers with start and finish in Durbuy. He was the Italian Marco Frigo and the Colombian Orluis Aular on the short but steep wall of Durbuy. For the 24-year-old Berckmoes it is the first victory of 2025 and the third in total.
The Italian Filippo Baroncini, who finished fourth, took the lead from the Brit Ethan Hayter. He has a four seconds ahead. Berckmoes follows seven seconds and the Italian Filippo Ganna in ten seconds. The Tour of Belgium ends on Sunday with a ride with Start and Finish in Brussels.
Lorena Wiebes wins first edition of Copenhagen Sprint
7.05 pm: Lorena Wiebes has won the first edition of the Copenhagen Sprint. After 151 kilometers between Roskilde and Copenhagen, the sprint star of SD Worx Protime was the best in the expected mass sprint of the new competition from the UCI Women’s WorldTour.
Wiebes defeated Elisa Balsamo and Chiara Consonni from Italy. Country fellow Charlotte Kool responded too late to Wiebes’ acceleration and finished fourth for her fellow countryman Nienke Veenhoven.
Wiebes booked her eleventh victory of the season. The European Champion previously won the first edition of Milan-San Remo for cyclists and Gent-Wevelgem.
Arthur Fils misses Wimbledon due to back injury
1.17 pm: Arthur Fils cannot participate in Wimbledon in more than a week. The French number 1, which occupies fifteenth place on the world ranking, has not yet recovered from the back injury that forced him to give up at the third round of Roland Garros at the end of last month against the Russian Andrej Roeblev.
Fils reached the last sixteen on Wimbledon last year. The third grand slam tournament of the year starts on Monday 30 June.
Nottingham rewards coach Nuno after a good season with a new contract
10.05 am: Nottingham Forest will continue with Nuno Espirito Santo. The Portuguese trainer extended his contract with the English football club on Saturday until the summer of 2028.
The Board of Nottingham rewards Nuno for a good season. Forest finished seventh in the Premier League and can therefore participate in a European tournament for the first time since the 1995/1996 season. Nottingham flows into the play-off round of the Conference League.
“I am happy that we can continue our journey at this fantastic football club,” Nuno said on the Nottingham website. “We have worked very hard to create a special band between the players, the fans and everyone at the club, which helped us to achieve great things last season. Now it’s time to work harder than ever. We strive for more special memories together.”
Panama after victory over Guatemala close to quarterfinals Gold Cup
9 am: The Panama football players have taken a big step towards the quarterfinals on the Gold Cup. The team of national coach Thomas Christiansen won in Austin 1-0 against Guatemala thanks to a goal from Tomás Rodríguez.
Panama previously beat Guadeloupe 5-2 and leads in group C with 6 points from two duels. Jamaica won 2-1 against Guadeloupe and has 3 points, just like Guatemala. Guadeloupe is at 0 points.
Suriname, with national coach Stanley Menzo, can no longer reach the quarterfinals after two group matches. Dick Advocaat will play again with Curaçao on Saturday. Curaçao started the tournament with a draw against El Salvador: 0-0.
