With a heat protocol, which has been in force since last year, the organization hopes to prevent situations where people have to go to the hospital due to heat problems. This happened in 2023 with six participants.
Heat -related problems are a risk on hot days, then it does not help that the temperature will rise again tomorrow. At first it seemed that it would be 30 to 31 degrees, but now it appears that the weather forecast is around 25 to 26 degrees. “The protocol contains precautions based on the weather forecast,” says Loek Schreurs on behalf of the organization. “We base the additional measures on top of the basic needs.”
Now that it seems to be a bit cooler on Sunday, those extra measures are not scaled up, says Schreurs. There are also three extra water points on the course, extra locations with shade and ice cream baths after the finish.
Ambulances ready
For participants and bystanders who still need support, there are dozens of healthcare workers who can provide assistance. “Think of first aiders, but also doctors and nurses,” says Schreurs. “Furthermore, a emergency service vehicle is ready and the safety region has two ambulances ready if it is necessary.”
