Man City mercilessly
With a breathtaking gala, Erling Haaland destroyed Leipzig’s dreams of a Champions League quarter-final and catapulted himself to the same level as Lionel Messi with his goal record. Haaland advanced to the acclaimed match winner in the 7-0 (3-0) win of English champions Manchester City in the round of 16 second leg against the Bundesliga club on Tuesday with a five-pack.

Only two players ahead of Haaland have scored five goals since the Champions League was introduced (1992). The Norwegian is also only the second after Messi to achieve the feat in a knockout game. Messi shot down Bayer Leverkusen in 2012 with a five-pack in the Barcelona jersey in the round of 16. Luiz Adriano scored five times in the group stage against BATE Borisov in 2014. However, not even Messi was as fast as Haaland on Tuesday (35 minutes).
After the courageous performance in the 1-1 win in the first leg, RB was still hoping for the big coup, but the DFB Cup winner had no chance against the force of Torgarant Haaland. This threatens the Bundesliga to only be represented by FC Bayern in the quarter-finals, especially since Eintracht Frankfurt only has outsider chances in Naples on Wednesday.
Haaland, of all people, made the difference in wet and cold weather, who had once matured into a world-class striker under Leipzig coach Marco Rose in Salzburg and Dortmund. “You’ll never be able to completely eliminate him,” Rose had predicted, and painfully proved right. First, the striker, who was signed off in the first leg, gave the Citizens the lead with a massive hand penalty (22nd). Just 77 seconds later, the Norwegian headed in. And just before the half-time whistle, Haaland made his hat-trick perfect (45+2). After Ilkay Gündogan scored the fourth goal after the break (49th), Haaland continued his goal show with two more goals (54th and 57th) and caused Leipzig’s highest defeat in Champions League history. Haaland has already scored ten goals in the current season in the premier class, and he has scored 28 times in the Premier League. Kevin De Bruyne provided the final point (90 + 2). No team in the history of the Champions League has been able to achieve a higher victory in the knockout phase.

Man City failed in the quarterfinals
Inter for the first time since 2011 in the premier class quarterfinals
Inter Milan have reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the first time in twelve years. A 0-0 draw in the round of 16 second leg at FC Porto was enough for the Italians to make it into the top eight teams on Tuesday evening. Inter had won the first leg 1-0. In the end, the guests were very lucky when Porto’s striker Mehdi Taremi (90th minute +5) hit the post. His teammate Pepê was sent off shortly afterwards (90+7) with yellow-red. The draw for the quarter-finals will take place this Friday.
Both teams offered the spectators in the Estádio do Dragão a weak game over long stretches. There were hardly any chances to score, which was also due to the fact that the guests met the Portuguese with a compact defensive block. Milan, on the other hand, were keen to defend their lead from the first leg and coach Simone Inzaghi’s side managed to do so in the end. Inter had last been in the quarter-finals of the premier class in 2011. At that time, the Italians were eliminated against FC Schalke 04.
