Owner Klein Paramaribo sad: ’10 years of work wiped out in one evening’

The shock is still good for Aniel Gajadhar, owner of Klein Paramaribo in Assen. A fire completely destroyed the restaurant on Rolderstraat.

Early this morning, he and his cousin Sanjana left his home above the business in a hurry. They escaped unscathed, but Gajadhar is very disappointed. “Everything we’ve built over the past ten years has been wiped out in one fell swoop.” He and his niece have since been taken in by colleagues from restaurant Porto.

Gajadhar was awakened at around 5 am by his cousin Sanjana. “My friend and her son slept happily with her sister. My niece heard strange noises and woke me up.” The bartender immediately noticed that something was wrong. “I saw there was smoke in my room. We immediately got dressed and went downstairs.”

Gajadhar peeked through the back door of his business, but saw nothing but smoke. No flames. Yet he didn’t trust it. “No, I didn’t dare go in. So we called the fire brigade.” While he waited for help, flames shot up from the store.
