HPK and Kristian Vesalainen terminated their contract by joint decision on Saturday. Vesalainen played 30 matches in the SM league and Club this season and scored 2+14 in them.

The career of the 26-year-old from Helsinki continues in Sparta Prague. According to information received by Iltalehti, Vesalainen may represent his new club in the Spengler Cup in Davos at the turn of the year.

The agreement between the parties covers this and next season.

Sparta’s head coach is Jaroslav Nedved. Niko Seppälä and Mikael Seppälä play in the team’s defense.

Canadian Mark Pysyk, who had a great season at SaiPa last season, also plays in the team.

Potential wasted

Vesalainen was the number one pick (number 24) of the Winnipeg Jets in the 2017 draft.

The striker got 70 NHL games under his belt, in the AHL he played 105 games, but for some reason his career in Winnipeg never took off.

Vesalainen has also played in Frölunda, Kärpi, Jokerei, Malmö and HIFK.

The potential of the 192-centimeter Vesalainen is enormous. The man has to squeeze it out now in Prague.
