The AZ Sint-Jan responds satisfactorily to the decision of the corporate court. It ruled that the Serruys Hospital – and therefore the new hospital AZ Oostende – must reimburse the costs of the previous merger. This amounts to 29 million euros, supplemented with loans and interest, together accounting for approximately 30 million euros.
According to Pablo Annys, chairman of AZ Sint-Jan Brugge, the verdict is a logical consequence of the termination of the collaboration. “During that successful merger, we invested more than 120 million euros in the Serruys Hospital. Part of this had not yet been written off. We are satisfied that we will now get that money back.”
