In 1964 the tax office, the first Drenthe building in Brutalism’s style, was built in Emmen. The building is being built by the Rotterdam architectural office Broekbakema, specialist in brutalism.
“The point is to show many materials and not to finish,” says Aldo Vos van Broekbakema. “Earlier, buildings were neatly delivered neatly, that had to be done differently, so no more stucco and plastering.”
A short time later, the Brink in Assen is starting to build the building of the Ten Holder company, where you can go for household appliances, crockery, lighting and leather goods. The building was designed by Architectenbureau Nijenhuis and Ebbinge from Assen and has a so -called fritess cutter façade. Aldo Vos: “If you would push a large potato through it, then it will come out again as a fries.”
Nowadays Restaurant Liff is located in the building on the Brink in Assen.
