Original “Tomb Raider” trilogy is being reissued

“Tomb Raider” is one of the most famous video game series – not least because of the various film adaptations. Now the original trilogy is to be reissued for PC and console.

We tend to romanticize things from the past a little. Especially when we associate good memories with it. Video games are no exception. Roam through the Tamriel of the first “Elder Scrolls” parts again, explore a mysterious estate again as Jill Valentine or Chris Redfield – or look for treasure again as Lara Croft. The reality often consists of fiddly controls and graphics that are runaway by today’s standards. But there is now good news for “Tomb Raider” fans: The Crystal Dynamics studio is planning a remaster version of the first three “Tomb Raider” parts. What is known so far about the new edition?

Tomb Raider planned as a remaster

The games from the 1990s and of course their protagonist Lara Croft now have cult status. There are a total of 14 Tomb Raider games, listed below:

  • 1996: Tomb Raider
  • 1997: Tomb Raider II – Starring Lara Croft
  • 1998: Tomb Raider III – Adventures of Lara Croft
  • 1999: Tomb Raider IV: The Last Revelation
  • 2000: Tomb Raider: The Chronicles
  • 2003: Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness
  • 2006: Tomb Raider: Legend
  • 2007: Tomb Raider: Anniversary
  • 2008: Tomb Raider: Underworld
  • 2010: Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light
  • 2013: Tomb Raider
  • 2014: Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris
  • 2015: Rise of the Tomb Raider
  • 2018: Shadow of the Tomb Raider

There are also numerous offshoots on various platforms. Specifically planned is a remaster of the regular first three parts of the series: “Tomb Raider”, “Tomb Raider II – Starring Lara Croft” and “Tomb Raider III – Adventures of Lara Croft”. In addition, the Remastered Collection will contain the expansions “Unfinished Business”, “Gold Mask” and “Lost Artifact”.

The entire graphics of the game should be revised for this purpose. However, adjustments to the gameplay are not yet known; Crystal Dynamics is keeping a low profile on this matter. The studio is responsible for the newer parts of the series after the Core Design studio responsible for the old games was closed.

Launch and availability of the new edition

The “Tomb Raider” Remastered Collection is scheduled to launch on February 24, 2024. The new edition will then be released for PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox Series X/S and the Nintendo Switch. The price should be around 30 euros. Anyone who can still show the original trilogy will receive an additional 20 percent discount. After the remastered version, there will be a completely new “Tomb Raider” part, which is currently in development.
