Rebekka Hoppermann is a student of human medicine at the University of Lübeck and of school music at the Lübeck University of Music. As a budding human doctor and singer, she knows how important it is to be aware of your own body and its needs. This also includes a healthy and climate-neutral diet, which can have both personal and social impacts. She discusses what the student union and the cafeteria have to do with this with Sebastian Meyhöfer, director of the Institute for Endocrinology and Diabetes at the University of Lübeck. He wants fewer people to develop type 2 diabetes or suffer from obesity, i.e. being overweight. He explains that a balanced and healthy diet is important using super foods such as oatmeal with blueberries and clears up the myth surrounding the pineapple diet. Joachim Hagel is an alumnus of the Lübeck University of Technology. His own unhealthy eating and drinking habits during his studies as well as an autoimmune disease led him to bring an energy bar onto the market that fills you up and keeps you awake. After several attempts in the kitchen at home, the industrial engineer finally managed to bring B_YOND onto the market. Joachim Hagel speaks aggressively about the hurdles that come with starting a business and why a healthy diet is even more important to him today.

Moderated by Johanna Helbing, communications officer at Lübeck University of Technology, the Lübeck hoch 3 podcast highlights research, culture and society topics once a month. Representatives of the three universities involved in the project (Lübeck University of Music, Lübeck University of Technology and Lübeck University) and, depending on the topic, an expert as a guest are invited.

The podcast is available on the website www.denkenspruenge-podcast.de and all common platforms available for access. The episodes go online every Wednesday in the middle of the month.
Knowledge transfer, mutual dialogue and new ideas – that’s what it stands for Lübeck to the power of 3. The initiators and representatives of the three universities see their own podcast as an important component in stimulating discourse with society about science and culture.

The discussion in episode 29:

Rebekka Hoppermann, aspiring human medicine doctor and singing student in the Bachelor of Arts, is involved in the Lübeck University of Music for musicians’ health and, within the framework of this broad field, deals with the basic physical requirements for healthy practice and performance. Conscious and long-term professional music-making requires a strong and balanced physique, which, however, is not easy to achieve and maintain in everyday life as a musician.

Professor Dr. med. Sebastian Meyhöfer is director of the Institute for Endocrinology and Diabetes at the University of Lübeck and also heads clinical endocrinology, diabetology and metabolic medicine University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein Campus Lübeck. A particular focus of his scientific work is on the neuroendocrine regulation of human energy balance and glucose homeostasis. Professor Meyhöfer is a member of various professional societies and is currently vice president and president-elect of the German Obesity Society.

Joachim Hagel studied industrial engineering at the Lübeck University of Technology. In 2019 he took the step into self-employment and founded the startup “B_YOND”. B_YOND is a caffeine bar that is supposed to increase performance. He developed the idea for the bar while still studying. The industrial engineer sat down with a nutritionist and the two of them didn’t stop working on the recipe until it worked. Joachim Hagel not only convinced friends and fellow students, but also sports enthusiasts and decided to bring the bar onto the market.

The moderator Johanna Helbing has been a communications officer at the Lübeck University of Technology since the end of 2021. She studied European media culture at the Bauhaus University in Weimar and Lyon and has accompanied the podcast in the editorial team since its birth in May 2021.
