In the fourth week of my graduation internship at a Ghanaian company, my Ghanaian colleagues invited me to “the goat party”. Yesterday, as a vegetarian, I was able to wave goodbye to the goat that has now ended up on my plate. After I have tasted a piece, I try to explain to my Ghanaian colleague why I am actually a vegetarian: because I think it is sad how animals are treated in the Netherlands. “Oh, so,” he answers. “If you don’t want to see it, why don’t you pay someone else to have it slaughtered for you?”
