Now it’s official: Borussia Dortmund has extended Giovanni Reyna’s contract for another year until 2026. The 21-year-old offensive player will be loaned out to Nottingham Forest with immediate effect. The Black and Yellows announced this late on Wednesday evening.

“We are pleased that we were able to extend the contract with Gio for another year. He is a player who has enormous ability and in whom we still see a lot of potential. Gio has approached us in the last few days with the wish to play for Nottingham Forest until the end of the season. We have complied with this and now wish Gio maximum sporting success for half the year in England,” said BVB sports director Sebastian Kehl.

According to information from the TV station “Sky” and the “Funke Mediengruppe”, there is no purchase option and was not mentioned by the clubs. In addition, the English should take the American’s full salary from Dortmund for the period of the loan, as transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano first reported. The salary should be 3 million euros per year. The loan fee for BVB is 1 million euros. On Wednesday morning, the “Ruhr Nachrichten” showed photos of Reyna on the way to the airport.

The rumored loan model with Nottingham and also the extension of the BVB contract are surprising because a possible sale of the midfielder was recently discussed. The Black and Yellows are said to have had 15 million euros in mind as a transfer fee, as was heard from England. Reyna has only appeared eleven times in the Bundesliga this season, coming on as a substitute ten times.
