On Sunday, the “Kicker” reported that FC Bayern will not extend the outgoing contract of club icon Thomas Müller. The 35-year-old debut in August 2008 for the Munich team and is a record player with 742 missions. Throughout Germany, no footballer can keep up with Müller when it comes to games, internationally, he makes it into the top 10-there are prominent names in front of him.

In the 2-2 against Hamburger SV in August 2008, Müller was on the pitch for FC Bayern for the first time. 16 years later, at the beginning of the 2024/25 season, he replaced Sepp Maier as a record player of Munich. In 742 games, Müller scored 247 goals and prepared 273 more – with 210 assists in the Bundesliga, he is the best template provider in history. If the Munich team reaches the final in the Champions League, twelve more missions can be added. The last time he would be on the pitch in the final in the Allianz Arena, where he could say goodbye to the third title in the premier class.

In addition to the Champions League, Müller won the German championship twelve times and six times the DFB Cup. At the club level, the flexible offensive player is at 32 titles-only Manchester-United legend Ryan Giggs collected 35 trophies and, as one-club men, was more successful than the native Weilheimer. The Welsh also leads the list of most games for just one club with 963 competitive games. Müller is in sixth place and could still catch up with Inter Milan’s Giuseppe Bergomi and Monaco’s Jean-Luc Ettori (both 754 games), but he would have to be used in every game.

Behind Giggs, Paolo Maldini from AC Milan and Roma legend Francesco Totti occupy the podium. Between 1985 and 2009, Maldini was 901 times for the Rossoneri on the square and when Totti ended his career in May 2017, he had completed 785 missions for the Giallorossi. Totti scored 307 goals for his youth club, only Bavaria’s Gerd Müller with 570 goals and Bilbaos Telmo Zarra with 335 – Thomas Müller took fifth place.
