Ömer Toprak becomes assistant coach at Real Sociedad San Sebastián

Former Bundesliga professional Ömer Toprak will be assistant to Pellegrino Matarazzo, who recently became the new head coach at Spanish first division club Real Sociedad San Sebastián. For the 36-year-old, who ended his active career at the end of 2024, it is the first stop in the new coaching role.

Toprak has a B trainer’s license and is part of Matarazzo’s staff, as is John Maisano, who most recently worked in Australia. At 250.7 million euros, La Real has the sixth-highest squad value in the Spanish upper house, but is only 16th in the table after 17 match days. The team has only managed one win from the last five league games.
