Ilkka Herola and Eero Hirvonen achieved Olympic silver in the combined team sprint.

The gold was won by the Norwegian team. Bronze went to Austria (+22.3).

The race was skied in rough weather, because the whole way the snow was pouring down from the sky.

Finland got on the road 27 seconds after Germany, who won the hill section, but the demanding conditions forced Germany, Norway, Austria, Japan and Finland to quickly form their own tight pack.

The medal battle took a turn after 12 kilometers, when the Austrian Thomas Rettenegger crashed on the second last ski shift.

After a while, Herola and Norway Andreas Skoglund went on a runaway. Herola was in the top spot for a while, but Skoglund eventually pushed ahead.

The gold was decided in the final straight, where Norway was better by only 0.5 seconds.

Combined has been Finland’s medal sambo in the Milan-Cortina Games. For both Herola and Hirvone, the medal is the second of these wins.
