Qatar is applying for the 2036 Olympics

The next Summer Olympics take place in Paris and Los Angeles. There are some applications for 2036.
The circle of applicants for the 2036 summer Olympics is greater: Qatar also wants to host. On Tuesday, the authorities of the golf state announced that the country with the capital Doha is applying for the orientation at the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Qatar’s Prime Minister Scheich Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani spoke in a statement that is spread over the state news agency of a “new milestone” on the way of the country. The application applies to both the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
After the 2022 World Cup, Qatar would be the first country in the Middle East to perform the Olympic Games. Al-Thani emphasized that Qatar has a “proven track record in the successful organization of important international sporting events”. In addition, “95 percent of the required sports infrastructure” is already available to align the games.
Germany is also planning an application for summer games 2036 – as well as for expenses 2040 or 2044. The German Olympic Sports Association (DOSB) is currently developing a national application concept. The choice of Berlin, Munich, Hamburg and the Rhein-Ruhr region are available. A decision should be made in the second half of 2026.
Meanwhile, the new IOC President Kirsty Coventry has spoken out for a review of the previous selection process. At the end of June, she announced that she wanted to use a working group to deal with the time of award and the role of IOC members. Under predecessor Thomas Bach, the IOC general assembly had formally confirmed prepared decisions.
According to the IOC, there is already a “double -digit” number of applicants for the 2036 games. Among other things, India are granted good opportunities. Qatar had repeatedly criticized internationally in connection with the World Cup-mainly because of the working conditions and the human rights situation in the country.
How realistically an expiry of the games in Qatar in summer, however, it remains to be seen. The World Cup was already moved to winter due to the heat month in summer. A World Athletics World Cup took place in the desert state in 2019-under miserable external circumstances.
Due to the heat, only 40 of the 68 starters reached the finish line at the women’s marathon. The German-Palestinian marathon runner Mayada Al Sayad said after the race: “It was terrible. My heart raced, I’ve never felt so bad.” The race was pulled through at over 32 degrees and high humidity.
