Kamil Stoch won the four-hill tour three times, plus three times Olympic gold. However, the pole will not be there at the Ski Sprung World Cup.

Kamil Stoch is one of the most successful ski jumpers of the past 15 years – but the triple Olympic champion will be missing at the upcoming World Cup in Trondheim (February 26 to March 9). The 36-year-old was not appointed to the Polish contingent.

As the Polish Ski Association PZN announced on Tuesday via the platform X, Stoch was not nominated. Instead, head coach Thomas Thurnbichler relies on Paweł Wąsek, Piotr żyła, Aleksander Zniszczoł, Dawid Kubacki and Jakub Wolny.

“The decision is based on the World Cup ranking and the best individual result of the season,” said Thurnbichler. Stoch had improved at the last World Cup in Sapporo, but other athletes showed better performances throughout the season.

In the overall World Cup, Stoch is currently in 36th place. His best results in Sapporo were a 22nd and a 16th place-too little to recommend itself for the World Cup team.
Thurnbichler had personally informed Stoch about the decision. “I told him that he should continue to train, because after the World Cup there is still the chance to qualify for the last part of the season,” said the coach.

Although Piotr żyła is 39th behind Stoch in the World Cup overall ranking, he was nominated as a defending champion on the normal hill for the World Cup. In addition, the coaching staff with only five athletes wanted to create a “working atmosphere without too much internal rivalry”. “The stress level at such a major event is already high enough,” emphasized Thurnbichler.
