Olivier Deman (Cercle) to SV Werder Bremen

“The Red Devil has played continuously for Cercle since he was 14, went through all youth series and played a total of 93 matches for Groen-Zwart.”

“Olivier started playing football at FC Knokke before moving to Cercle in 2007. In 2010 he briefly moved to Club’s neighbors to return to the Association in 2014. Since then he has played through all youth categories,” says Cercle Brugge.

To Red Devil

“His debut for the first team followed in 2019 during a home game against Standard (1-2), but a real breakthrough followed in 2021. Then he was decisive with 2 assists for qualification for the 1/8th finals of the Croky Cup and he was called up for the first time for the young Red Devils.

Since then it has only been uphill for Deman. He profiled himself more and more as a basic pawn and especially when he was posted to the left wingback in 2022, he became an indispensable link in Cercle’s game system. Week after week he made an impression and, especially on a physical level, he was one of the strongest players in Europe with the number of kilometers walked, sprint distance and intensity.

An absolute crowning achievement for Deman followed last summer, when national coach Domenico Tedesco selected him for the Red Devils. Playing minutes also followed when Olivier came in for Arthur Theater a few minutes before time during the European Championship qualifier in Estonia (0-3).

“Nice chance”

Olivier Deman: “Today I say goodbye to a team that has given me a lot. A team where I grew up, where I grew from a boy to a man although I am still young. Cercle, everyone who moves around Cercle and misses the atmosphere, but above all I am grateful, grateful to all the coaches I have been able to work with, grateful to Cercle that I can and may take this step.

This is a very good opportunity for me, an opportunity that I really shouldn’t pass up. I therefore remain ‘a green’. I grew up from a youth player within Cercle to a promising international and now even A-international. At the moment I get the chance to play in the Bundesliga, it is really unreal for me. I will always be grateful to Cercle and I look forward to coming back: long live Cercle!”
