Oberliga West 1952/53: BVB wins championship – Cologne Shepherd is top scorer

New in the database

Another milestone has been added to the transfer market database. The 1952/53 season of the Oberliga West can now be viewed in its entirety. Borussia Dortmund became champions with a three-point lead over their closest pursuer, 1. FC Köln. BVB thus qualified for the final round of the German championship, where the black and yellow team missed out on reaching the final.

The top scorer meanwhile came with Hans Schäfer from “Effzeh”. The Cologne veteran scored a total of 26 times in 28 games. Franz Farke, grandfather of today’s Gladbach coach Daniel Farke, who scored 17 goals for BVB, also left his mark.
