Oasis are once again not included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. After this year’s inductions were officially announced, many fans of the Britrockers expressed their disappointment and anger online – and some also their displeasure over the entire process. Read more about it here.
Again only on the longlist
On April 28, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced who will be recorded this year. The new members include artists such as The White Stripes, Cyndi Lauper, Outkast and Sound Garden. In addition, music greats such as Bad Company, Thom Bell, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Nicky Hopkins, Carol Kaye, Salt-N-Pepa, Lenny Waronker and Warren Zevon are honored for their outstanding influence and their works of life.
Oasis originally stood on the lunglist of the nominees, but again – again – did not make it to the selected inductions. In addition to them, artists such as Mariah Carey, Phish, who were not accepted despite winning the fan vote, did not take into account Billy Idol, The Black Crowes as well as Joy Division and New Order.
This is how the fan reactions failed
The renewed rejection of Oasis caused lively discussions among fans on social media. Many attributed the decision that the band in the United Kingdom was much more popular than in the United States, where the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is based. A fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “Is the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame not American? Oasis would of course be less well known.” The international importance of Oasis may be underestimated from an American perspective. Another fan complemented sarcastic: “Typical, right? Outkast is good, but Oasis practically invented the Britpop – they really missed a chance” (via X).
An X comment that was also shared in many ways: “I think Noel is honestly interested in Man United.” This assessment fits Noel Gallagher’s known attitude towards prices and awards, which he often gives little value on. Some people in the socials fell even shorter, only shared the info and angry emojis. So far, the band itself has not heard any new statements about the non-recording.
