Surprise in Switzerland: The second -class Nyon has won against FC Zurich in the Swiss Cup. Then there were heated scenes.
Wild end of a nerve -wracking cup game: On Sunday afternoon, Nyon defeated the favorite FC Zurich in the Swiss Cup. Afterwards, the provocative cheers of the home team led to trouble among the guest fans – and thus almost to an escalation.
What happened? After the regular season, it was 1-1 draw. The second division team surprisingly won the penalty shootout with 4: 2. Leorat Bega converted the last attempt. After that, the outsider celebrated exuberant – and of all people in front of the guest curve from Zurich.
The result: tumult on the field. Fans of the Zurich threw numerous objects, including plastic cups. Some climbed over a barrier after the provocation of the Nyon players and ran to the square. There was a completely confusing pack formation for a moment.
The Zurich players and some other fans tried to settle the situation. After a short time, they managed to use the security personnel that have now also stormed. Another escalation could ultimately be prevented – and Nyon celebrate his coup in the cup without further incidents.
