More than six years after retiring, Dirk Nowitzki is making his NBA comeback.
The German basketball idol will become a TV expert on “Prime Video” from the 2025/26 season and will provide his expertise on the North American professional league, the US company Amazon announced on Tuesday via its social media channels. US media had already reported on the Würzburger’s upcoming engagement in mid-December.
The 45-year-old will rank the top matches for the (streaming) giant’s customers. Blake Griffin, also a former NBA professional, will work in the same role. Taylor Rooks will be the presenter.
Amazon Prime has acquired global rights to the NBA, which will include around 100 games per season for eleven years starting next season – these can then also be seen in Germany on Prime Video.
Nowitzki’s signing could also be aimed at this background. The 46-year-old was the only German to win the NBA title with the Dallas Mavericks in 2011. Nowitzki ended his career in 2019 and the Hall of Famer has been an advisor to the Mavs since 2021.
