The 24-time Grand Slam winner takes a trip to football-but not as a player, but as a shareholder. The club of his choice? An emerging club.
Tennis star Novak Djoković is expanding his commitment to the sports shop-and gets in with the French second division club Le Mans FC. As the club announced, the 24-time Grand Slam winner belongs to a group of prominent investors who have secured shares.
In addition to Djoković, the former Formula 1 drivers Felipe Massa and Kevin Magnussen and the investor Outfield also take part in the traditional club. Le Mans did not provide information on the amount of the investments.
Club President Thierry Gomez said in a message: “These new partnerships give us the opportunity to grow responsibly.” At the same time, he referred to the changed framework conditions in professional football: “We have to be aware that the economic model of football has changed. The elite has become smaller and new investors have been added. In order to survive in this new context, we have to adapt.”
Le Mans played in the fifth division in 2016/17. Since then it has been steadily uphill for the club. Last season the promotion to the 2nd league was achieved.
