Not only physically in the closet, the extradition request in the Lassoued case also remained digital. Verlinden keeps the police out of the wind

Tunisia’s extradition request for Abdesalem Lassoued not only remained physically in the closet, the digital registration with the public prosecutor’s office also did not raise any alarm bells. This became apparent on Wednesday from an explanation by Minister of Justice Paul Van Tigchelt (Open Vld) in Parliament. Minister of the Interior Annelies Verlinden (CD&V) indicated during the parliamentary committee that she retained “full confidence in the police and the OCAD (threat analysis body)”. A timeline provided by Verlinden should show that the police shared the necessary information with the judiciary about the man and contacted Tunisia several times for more information.
