Florian Wirtz wants to go to FC Liverpool, FC Liverpool wants Florian Wirtz – but DFB sports director Rudi Völler does not expect the superstar of Bayer Leverkusen with a quick end to the transfer saga.
“It is no secret that he would like to go to Liverpool. I know the clubs are negotiating with each other,” said Völler on Wednesday on the sidelines of the National League semi-final between Germany and Portugal at “DAZN”. But with “such transfers” it is also “often the case that it always takes a while until you ultimately agree”.
However, Völler does not expect the deal between Bayer Leverkusen and the Reds to fail.
“Sure, in the end you have the feeling that it will take place,” said the former sports director of the Werkelf: “Florian Wirtz has proven that he is a very, very valuable player. Not only for Bayer Leverkusen, but also for the national team. That is why it also costs a few euros more.”
“Big Hype” around Florian Wirtz
Bayer sports director Simon Rolfes had confirmed Liverpool’s interest in Wirtz at the beginning of last week, and the hot phase of the transfer negotiations between the clubs is apparently currently underway – the market value of the national player is 140 million euros. His contract in Leverkusen is still running until 2027.
“ZDF” expert Per Mertesacker spoke of a “big hype” around Wirtz that on the island “all desire for one of the greatest German talents. Liverpool really upgrades to get it is already a big number”.
