Combier king Jarl Magnus Riiber takes up gold at his last World Cup race in Trondheim. Julian Schmid still has podium chances, Vinzenz Geiger needs a catch -up.

Riiber gave up the fans once more on Saturday (08.03.2025). The Norwegian sailed from the large hill to 139 meters, although he started several hatches deeper than the competition. His lead before the 10-kilometer cross-country skiing (2.30 p.m. in the first) is already 1:14 minute before the second-placed Japanese Ryota Yamamoto (134 meters). Riiber’s compatriot Espen Björnstad (138.5) is currently third.

Schmid fourth in halftime

Julian Schmid, after gold, follows the best chance of another medal after gold in the team event. Despite difficult wind conditions, the Oberstdorfer showed a good jump to 127 meters and is 1:32 minute behind Riiber. Gold seems out of reach, but the podium is only 13 seconds away. However, the strong Johannes Lamparter (Austria/+ 1:36) and Joergen Graabak (Norway/+ 1:52) are also on his neck.

Geiger: “Gold is forgiven”

Vinzenz Geiger, who led his team to gold with a perfect final round, has to start a catch -up hunting to get a fourth medal in Trondheim. After a weaker jump to 127.5 meters than ninth, the 27-year-old already has more than two minutes (2:18) behind.

With two or three meters more I would be good, but it will be difficult“, said Geiger:”Gold is forgiven, but Riiber also deserves.“Wendelin Thannheimer (+2: 20) starts immediately behind him, the seven -time world champion Johannes Rydzek has to wait a little longer (+2: 39).

Riiber’s last big appearance in Trondheim

Riiber waves the eleventh gold in the last World Cup race of his career. In Trondheim he had already won with the Norwegian team and in the individual compact. The record world champion ends his unique career for health reasons.
