NOC*NSF offers Switzerland Thialf for Olympic skating

Sports association NOC*NSF would consider it an honor if Thialf could organize the Olympic skating competitions in 2030 or 2034. The sports association will inform the Swiss Olympic Committee of this as soon as possible in a letter.

Switzerland decided on Friday to officially put itself forward as a candidate for the 2030 or 2034 Winter Games. However, the country does not have an ice rink that meets the Olympic requirements for long track speed skating. Thialf has been mentioned by the Swiss in their feasibility study as an alternative location, in addition to ice rinks in Germany and Italy.

Thialf previously announced that it is open to hosting the Olympic skating competitions. The sports association now wants to take it seriously. “NOC*NSF will inform the Swiss NOC by letter as soon as possible that we are happy to discuss further with them. We will also let you know that Thialf is an excellent location for long track skating.”

The International Olympic Committee is expected to make a decision on the location for the 2030 and 2034 Winter Games in the summer of 2024. In addition to Switzerland, France and Sweden will also apply for the organization.
