“No passion, no guts” – what’s wrong with FC Bayern

The alarm bells are ringing at FC Bayern. After the embarrassing 0-1 loss against Bremen, Leverkusen is threatening to slip away in the championship race. Coach Thomas Tuchel has to get dissatisfied stars back on the road to success.

FC Bayern lost three important points in the title race against Bremen on Sunday. “That wasn’t our plan and it came as a very surprise,” explained sports director Christoph Freund in the “Blickpunkt-Sport” interview. “We played bloodlessly in the first half, no passion, no real guts.”

Next track wobbles

The bitter defeat hits the Munich team at a time when the table is seven points ahead of the self-confident Leverkusen stars led by coach Xabi Alonso before Wednesday’s catch-up game against Union Berlin. A win is mandatory. After the exit from the DFB Cup in Saarbrücken and the defeat in the Supercup against Leipzig, the proud series of 11 championships is now in danger of being broken.

Tuchel rumbles against the frustration

What to do is probably not the only question asked by coach Thomas Tuchel, who couldn’t stop shaking his head at his team’s poor performance. Such a performance could “never be our claim. It goes against every law of competitive sports,” the 50-year-old rumbled. He has to get over the frustration of the “big setback” as quickly as possible, because if things don’t go better against Union Berlin on Wednesday, the twelfth championship will become a long way off.

He now has two days to get the dissatisfied stars back on track. Because the frustration is also deep among the players. At the sobering 0-1 defeat, the star players around Harry Kane had disappointment written all over their faces.

Sané and Kimmich have doubts

Leroy Sané wasn’t really happy when he had to act more defensively in the final phase after the system change. After Joker Thomas Müller brought the change to him, the offensive lover visibly struggled with his new role. However, this shouldn’t be taken too seriously, said Tuchel, whose decision also made leader Joshua Kimmich doubt the tactics. To his surprise, the 28-year-old was no longer on the field in the final phase.

He left the pitch visibly dissatisfied when he was substituted for Müller in the 64th minute. “Of course I always want to be on the pitch for 90 minutes,” said Kimmich about his substitution, after which he rushed straight to the bench, “especially when we’re behind it’s different than when you’re leading 3-0.” His sobering conclusion: “You don’t get the feeling that we know what it’s about.”

Freund also warns: “If we want to achieve something, we have to give everything for it and then we have to really want it. That’s always the most important thing before you talk about tactics: that you win duels and bring the basic virtues onto the pitch.” .
