The assize court in Antwerp has sentenced Peter Van Heucke to life in prison for murder, double attempted murder, hostage-taking and rape. A sentence additionally imposed with a security period of 25 years. And the court and jury also added an additional 15 years of detention. The toughest possible sanction in our current law. Van Heucke will not disappear from the sights of justice until he is 94 at the earliest. How did this decision come about?
