For the first time since 2006
Germany is missing in popular Olympic sports

The athletes look at the Winter Olympics in the coming year with a lot of anticipation. But there are no German starters with a discipline.
At the coming winter games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo there will be a premiere that the German Association would have liked to do without: For the first time since 2006, no German figure skater has been at the start. This was announced by the German Eislauf Union (DeU) on Monday.
The association has not reported a woman for the decisive Olympic qualification from September 19 to 21 in Beijing. According to the DEU, the internal test run in mid -August in Oberstdorf did not produce a athlete after the resignation of the German champion Kristina Isaev who would have had realistic chances of a ticket.
At the World Cup in March in Boston, Germany was missing in the women’s singles. At that time, most Olympic places were awarded. So far, two starting places in the pair run and one in the ice dance have been secured.
The DEU is therefore looking forward: For the young generation, it should now be about establishing themselves internationally and being competitive again in France until the winter games 2030, the association said.
A little residual chance of a single starter remains: A German woman could still compete with the Olympic team competition, but Germany has to qualify for that.
In the men, the DEU surprisingly relies on the 17-year-old Genrikh Garrot in the Olympic qualification instead of master Nikita Starostin. SEU sports director Claudia Pfeifer said: “With Genrikh Garrot, we send the runner into the race, who has the best chance of securing an Olympic starting site for Germany.”
Garnation should not take part in the games in Italy, however. German citizenship has so far lacked the native Russian.
