No consensus in Walloon majority on dismissal of entire bureau of parliament | Interior

After PS chairman Paul Magnette on Friday, the chairman of the Liège PS federation and Minister of the Budget in the French Community, Frédéric Daerden, called today in ‘C’est pas tous les jours dimanche’ (RTL-TVi) for the resignation of the entire bureau of the Walloon Parliament. But within the Walloon majority there seems to be no consensus on this.

Parliament President Jean-Claude Marcourt (PS) has not yet commented on the matter, but according to Daerden “he is prepared to subscribe to the logic of a dismissal of the bureau”. His fellow party member Sophie Pécriaux announced on Friday evening that she would resign from the office.

But within the Walloon PS-MR-Ecolo majority there is no consensus on the dismissal of the entire bureau. Ecolo bureau member Manu Disabato wants to resign if chairman Marcourt remains in office: “Like Paul Magnette, we think the chairman’s position has become untenable, but his attempt to drag everyone along is not correct. In addition to his trip to Dubai, Marcourt primarily responsible for the Registrar’s attitude towards the staff. He has shown a lack of proactivity and has been too slow in removing the Registrar and implementing the necessary reforms. Let me be clear: if the President remains sit down, I resign,” said Disabato.

For Walloon Minister of Budget Adrien Dolimont (MR), one should not blame others. The clerk and the chairman clearly made mistakes. Dolimont thinks it is “inappropriate” for the entire agency to resign. On the contrary, he calls to regain serenity.

Immediate dismissal

MR chairman Georges-Louis Bouchez called on RTL-TVi today for the immediate resignation of the Walloon parliament speaker, but also argued for the start of a procedure for the immediate departure of clerk Frédéric Janssens. “He is now suspended with his salary without working, which is unacceptable,” says Bouchez.

The MR is in the Walloon majority, but Bouchez does not follow his PS colleague Magnette in his plea on Friday for a collective dismissal of the Walloon Parliament’s bureau, which he considers a “smokescreen”. “We have to stop with symbols. There are specific responsibilities,” said Bouchez, who noted that none of the MR members took part in the trips and the party opposed the construction of a tunnel between parliament and the House of MPs. In a second period, the MR chairman is prepared to rearrange the bureau.
