New Year’s Eve in Crans-Montana ended in flames and claimed the lives of 40 people. The Swiss Football Association also mourns and announces news.

There is great sadness after the fire disaster in the ski resort of Crans-Montana, including in Swiss football. Nine young players were among the 40 fatalities. The Swiss Football Association (SFV) announced this on the national day of mourning.

“We mourn and feel for all the victims and injured in the Crans-Montana fire disaster as well as with their families. Nine young Swiss football players from three regional French-speaking Swiss clubs also lost their lives, and several others were injured,” the association wrote on the Swiss national team’s account on

The tragedy occurred on New Year’s Eve in the bar “Le Constellation”. 40 people died in the fire and almost 120 others were injured, some seriously. Most of the victims were teenagers and young adults – some as young as 14 years old.

A central funeral service will take place on Friday afternoon in Martigny, not far from Crans-Montana. Around 1,000 relatives and representatives from politics and society are expected.
